What Would You Ask of a King?

I heard this story years ago in a small group. Now, I do not know if it’s true, but it really doesn’t matter because the message behind it is certainly true.

Arnold Palmer was invited to play an exhibition golf match by a Saudi king. Palmer wasn’t sure if he should go, but was convinced by his friends to do it. After the match, just before returning to the United States the king approached Palmer and said: “I want to give you a special gift for being here with us. What would you like?” Palmer replied: “Please… you don’t have to do anything. I’ve had 4 great days of amazing golf, you’ve paid me well, you’ve been a wonderful host…there is nothing more that I could ask for. It has just been an honor to be here.”

The King insisted: “I want to give you something to remember your visit.” Palmer, not wanting to dishonor the king, finally accepted. He thought about it for a moment and said, “Well, why don’t you give me a golf club.” The King seemed pleased with this request and promised to send it to him upon his return to America.

On the plane, Arnold began to wonder what kind of golf club a Saudi king would give him. Would it be a solid gold putter with his name engraved on it? Maybe, it would be a driver adorned with diamonds or other jewels. He knew, for sure, that it would be a golf club that he would display as a trophy. After all, it was a gift from a king.

A few weeks later, Arnold received a certified letter in the mail from the king. Arnold thought that was a little strange. He opened the envelope and to his astonishment the Saudi royalty had given him a deed to a GOLF CLUB – complete with facilities and 500 acres of land!

You see, KINGS THINK LIKE KINGS – KINGS THINK BIG! A golf club to one person is not a golf club to another.

As you make your plans for 2012, the King of Kings is asking you: “What do you want to accomplish next year?” “How many people do you want to reach?” “How many lives do you want to change?” You have the opportunity to ask for anything you desire from The King – be bold, don’t shy away! As you seek His blessings for 2012, be confident in one thing: Our God thinks like THE KING, and OUR KING THINKS BIG.
